Your First Reformer Pilates Class in Fort Worth
Walking into your first reformer class can feel like a lot. There's a machine with springs, straps, and a sliding carriage, and everyone else seems to know what they're doing. The good news: most of them felt the same way once. Here's what to expect at FORMAT, so you can walk in feeling ready.
What is a reformer?
A reformer is a bed-like frame with a carriage that slides back and forth on wheels. Springs underneath add resistance, and straps and a footbar give you something to push and pull against. Changing the springs makes a move harder or easier, so the same class works for beginners and longtime students.
Before you come
Book ahead. Reformer classes have a set number of machines. Reserve your spot on our class schedule.
Arrive 10 minutes early. Your instructor will help you set up your machine and show you the basics.
Wear fitted clothes. Loose shirts can catch on the springs.
Bring grip socks and water. Grip socks keep you steady on the carriage.
Eat light. A small snack an hour or two before class is plenty.
What happens in class
Our FORM and FORM Sculpt reformer classes run 45 minutes in a gently heated room (80–85°F). A typical class moves through:
Warm-up: breathing and footwork to wake up your core and legs.
Full-body work: legs, glutes, arms, and core, using the springs and straps for resistance.
Cool-down: stretching to finish loose and relaxed.
You'll probably feel muscles you didn't know you had. That's normal. Moves are slow and controlled, so your form matters more than speed.
Tips from our instructors
Tell your instructor you're new. They'll keep an eye on your setup and offer easier options.
Lighter springs aren't always easier. On some moves, less resistance makes your core work harder.
Take a break whenever you need one. Child's pose is always allowed.
Come back within a week. The second class is when things start to click.
