Heated vs. Regular Pilates: Which Is Right for You?

If you've looked at FORMAT's schedule, you've noticed some classes run warm and some don't. Heat changes how a class feels, but not what makes Pilates work: slow, controlled movement that builds core strength, posture, and stability. Here's how to choose.

What "heated" means at FORMAT

Not all heat is the same. Our rooms run at three levels:

  • Not heated: Strength and Recover/Yin. Good for heavier lifting and slower, deeper stretching.

  • Gently heated (80–85°F): FORM and FORM Sculpt, our reformer Pilates classes. Warm enough to loosen up, not so warm that you're distracted.

  • Heated (90–95°F): Sculpt, Power Yoga, Sculpt + Flow, the Format Method, and FORMAT, our signature mat Pilates class.

Why people love a warm room

  • You feel looser, faster. Warm muscles often feel ready to move sooner, which helps with Pilates' long, controlled stretches.

  • It feels like a bigger workout. You'll sweat more, and many people find that motivating.

  • It's a reset. A warm, focused 45 minutes is a good break from the rest of your day.

One honest note: sweating more doesn't mean you're getting stronger faster. Strength comes from consistency and good form, heated or not.

When to choose a non-heated class

  • You're brand new and want to focus on learning the movements first.

  • You're pregnant, managing a health condition, or sensitive to heat. Check with your doctor before taking a heated class.

  • You want to lift heavier. Our Strength class stays cool on purpose.

Tips for your first heated class

  1. Hydrate before you come, not just during class.

  2. Bring a towel and water. Grip socks help on the reformer.

  3. Take breaks whenever you need them. Our instructors will always offer a lighter option.

  4. Start gently heated. FORM at 80–85°F is a good first step before the 90°F+ classes.

Try both and see what you like

The easiest way to find your fit is to try a few. Our two-week intro for $69 includes unlimited mat classes plus three reformer FORM classes, so you can take a heated class one day and Strength the next. See all of our classes, or check the schedule.

FORMAT is an integrated fitness and wellness studio at 465 S Main St in Fort Worth's Near Southside.
